6 Days Serengeti Migration Safari (Northern Circuit)

This 6-day safari takes you deep into the heart of the Great Migration, one of nature’s most spectacular events. In July, vast herds of wildebeest move north through the Lobo area and into the remote Wagakuria region,

Day 1 Arusha Town - Ngorongoro Crater

Our journey begins with a pick-up from Arusha, followed by a scenic drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Upon arrival, we’ll enjoy a delicious lunch at the lodge before setting out on an afternoon safari.

Descending over 600 meters into the crater, we’ll enter a wildlife paradise, where the year-round water supply and lush vegetation support an incredible variety of animals. Expect to see herds of wildebeest, zebras, buffalo, eland, warthogs, hippos, and African elephants. The crater is also home to a dense population of predators, including lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs, and the elusive leopard.

Our adventure takes us to Lake Magadi, a beautiful alkaline lake attracting flamingos, hippos, and a variety of water birds. After an exciting day of game viewing, we’ll head to our chosen accommodation for a delicious dinner and a restful overnight stay.

Day 2 Ngorongoro Crater - Serengeti (Lobo Area)

After breakfast, we set off on our journey to Serengeti National Park, leaving the lush highlands behind as we descend into the heart of wild Africa. As we enter the Serengeti, the vast open plains stretch endlessly before us, teeming with wildlife and breathtaking scenery.

Our destination is the Lobo area, located north of Seronera in the central Serengeti. This region plays a vital role in the annual wildebeest migration, with herds passing through in July and August on their way to Kenya’s Masai Mara, and again in late October and November as they return to the southern Serengeti.

We arrive in time for lunch before heading out on an exciting afternoon game drive. With the Serengeti’s iconic landscapes as our backdrop, we’ll search for the Big Five and a variety of other wildlife, from prowling predators to grazing herbivores.

After an unforgettable day of game viewing, we’ll head to our accommodation in the Lobo area, where a delicious dinner and a comfortable overnight stay await.

Approximate driving time: 2-3 hours to Serengeti

Day 3 Serengeti (Lobo Area) Full Day

After breakfast, embark on a thrilling full-day game drive in Serengeti National Park, exploring the Lobo area and the Grumeti River region—both teeming with wildlife throughout the year. Unlike the migrating herds, many animals remain in this area year-round, offering excellent opportunities to spot elephants, buffalo, gazelles, zebras, lions, leopards, and cheetahs.

Enjoy the peaceful solitude of the Serengeti as you traverse its vast plains, often with no other vehicles in sight. The Grumeti River, lined with towering riverine trees, provides a scenic backdrop as you listen to the calls of kingfishers and fish eagles echoing through the wilderness.

After a rewarding day of wildlife encounters, return to your accommodation at Lobo Wildlife Lodge for a delicious dinner and a restful overnight stay.

Day 4 Serengeti (Lobo Area) – Northern Serengeti (Wagakuria)

After breakfast, we journey towards the far northern reaches of Serengeti National Park, known as Wagakuria. En route, enjoy a scenic game drive from the Lobo area to Wagakuria, where you’ll have the chance to spot giraffes, plains game, herds of buffalo, and elephants roaming the vast landscape.

We arrive at the lodge in time for lunch, followed by an afternoon game drive in the Wagakuria area. From August to October, this region becomes a hotspot for the Great Migration, depending on rainfall patterns. One of the most dramatic moments of the migration unfolds here, as thousands of wildebeest attempt the perilous Mara River crossing, battling strong currents and lurking crocodiles. Witnessing this natural spectacle is an unforgettable experience.

After an exciting day of wildlife encounters, enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at Mara Mara Tented Lodge, tailored to your preferred comfort level.

Day 5 Northern Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, embark on a thrilling full-day game drive in the Wagakuria area of the Serengeti. Known for its exceptionally high resident wildlife numbers, this region is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts. Encounter prides of lions, some boasting up to 30 members, and immerse yourself in the beauty of this wildlife paradise, especially from August to October. The Mara River serves as a focal point, offering the chance to witness the awe-inspiring spectacle of the Great Migration as herds cross the river northwards and then return southwards a few days later. Please note, witnessing a crossing can be challenging and is often a matter of luck, as herds may linger by the river before deciding to cross. Despite this, the Wagakuria area's stunning landscapes, including kopjes, woodlands, riverine vegetation, and open plains, reminiscent of Kenya's Masai Mara Game Reserve, ensure an unforgettable safari experience. After a day of thrilling wildlife encounters, retreat to your chosen accommodation in the Wagakuria area for a delightful dinner and a peaceful overnight stay, tailored to your preferred level of comfort.
